No-exam life insurance
Learn which applicants qualify for streamlined approval, the procedure for evaluation, and expectations if full underwriting is required.
A majority of carriers now provide streamlined evaluation: applicants within specified age and coverage limits receive approval decisions based on application information, prior prescription records, motor-vehicle reports and comparable external data, bypassing a full medical exam. Decisions frequently arrive within hours. This site displays for each product whether a medical exam is mandatory, conditional, or unnecessary.
What it changes
Foregoing an exam does not bypass the underwriting review. Your statements are checked, and a policy issued under false statements may be challenged within the initial twenty-four months. Additional questions from the insurer may prompt a request for an exam or blood tests; you would decide at that juncture to continue or withdraw.
Who tends to qualify
Generally, applicants are typically under age 60, seeking amounts below the carrier's rapid-approval cap, with no serious health concerns and no tobacco consumption in the previous twelve months or longer. Applicants with recent medical visits that included lab work may have those records accepted instead of scheduling an exam.
Should an exam be necessary, it is normally conducted by a paramedical specialist in your San Diego area workplace or residence, lasting fifteen to forty minutes, provided at no expense to you. Examination findings can sometimes enhance rate placement for applicants in good health, making an exam potentially beneficial rather than problematic.
